Apologies from a Bird Who Was Scared to Fly

The Bird Who Was Scared to Fly
Once there was a man who lived in a protected garden.  He like it the safety there and rarely came out. However, one day this small, wounded baby bird feel into the garden. The man loved her as soon as he saw the injured little bird and wanted to protect this little bird and to help her find strengthen again.  The man knew from the start knew that she could not stay with him for long; for, as you know birds are meant to fly. Therefore, the man knew the little lovely bird could not live with him forever. This man still found that he loves this little baby bird and gave her a safe place for in his hands. Very gently, he wrapped his protective fingers around her so as not to scare the bird away.
The thing that the baby bird did not realize was that this kind man had sever injuries to his hands from terribly wounded inflicted before. The precious little bird noticed the soft bandages and thought the kind man had placed them there for her to keep her comfortable. So the baby bird settled into her new place warm safe place and the man's fingers slowly wrapped up around her. Therefore, the bird found safety and rest with the man.
So that the little bird would remember how to sing, he would talk with her and whistle to her each day. The bird listed to the song and loved the man. The cooing that the man sang to the little bird, she thought that was the man loving her as other birds would. The little bird lacked understanding that the man could not fly with her. The little bird just wanted the man to give it his best shot and thought that if she encouraged the man to he would move closer to being able to be with her.
As the bird healed, the man slowly opened his fingers and let her see more of the world around her. This hurt the man because his hands had grown stiff protecting her. Since he understood that it was for the grown bird, the man kept going. Eventually the man's palm was flat and she could see so much around her. The grown bird tried her wings a bit, but quickly returned to the man's hand. He watched her for a while, but realized that even though she had grown the bird would never leave his hand for more than a few hours. Something would have to be done or the grown bird would not do what she was meant to … be a bird.
Therefore, one day when the bird flew away the man closed his hands into a fits. It hurt him to do so and the man hoped she would understand. When the bird came back, she found she could not land in the warmth of the palm of his hands as she had done so many times before. Instead of flying to a nearby branch and sitting, the bird started to try to open his hands. The bird panicked, pecked, and pecked at the man's hand until she had put scratches over his hands. Broken hearted the man shook her off his hands and she fell to the ground.
After some confusion, the little bird stood back up and flew up into a nearby tree. There the bird sat confused and wondering what she had done wrong because she loved the man and knew he loved her. The bird did not realize how different they were and how much he did love her by sending her away. The bird tried a few more times to get the man to open his hand to her again, but he would not. The man understood it was not the best thing for her to sit in his hands anymore. He wanted her to go out and find a new life with other birds.
Was that tears the bird saw in the man’s eyes as he shook her off again for another time? Confused and scared the bird flew back up into the tree. She remembered the man’s whispers of “moment by moment” and how he told her when she was just a little bird that they would enjoy the ones they were are given. The bird tried to sing a song for him, but all that came out sounded wrong.
The bird looked down at the man sitting there with his injured hands.  What she had done and was very sorry and sad that she had pecked at the hands of the man she loved and who had only tried to protect her. All the man had done was given her two perfect years of rest and peace with him….and she repaid him by hurting him. If birds can cry she did.
The bird sat there for a while looking at him, and then looking out past the little garden he had found her in. In the distance, the bird saw other birds flying of all sorts and wondered what out there was like. Then she looked back at the man sitting there now with his head in his hands, no longer looking up at her. The bird knew that she would now have to fly away from the man and go see what was out there, even if she was scared.
The bird hoped that the man would let her come back close enough to where he sat so she could sing a song to him of what she had found and done on her new adventures out there. The bird hoped the man would listen when she did. The little bird was so sorry she has hurt the man for she loved him very deeply and hated to leave him.
Yes that is what the bird decided to do, she would come back and sing for the kind man of the new things she has done in hope that he would listen and whistle back to her now and then.
So the bird went off a ways to find out what was out there beyond the safety of his place. Knowing that she would fly back in a while and sing a new song for him
    Your bird and friend, Kati
